4 Cleaning Myths You Should Stop Believing

Your grandmother has probably shared a lot of stories about cleaning. While some are true, there are others that simply won't work when you apply them.

If anything, these myths will only complicate things for you. It's best to stop believing in them if you want to give your home a thorough cleaning it deserves.

Myth #1: Newspapers as window cleaners

If you don't have a piece of soft cloth lying around, you can use old newspaper to clean glass.

Truth: Even if you think it's eco-friendly, using newspapers is a big no-no when it comes to cleaning your windows. The soggy paper can leave ugly stains on your windows. Instead, use a microfiber cloth and a cleaning solution for the job.

Myth #2: Frequent vacuuming can destroy your carpet

You wouldn't want dust to accumulate on your carpet. However, you read somewhere that frequent vacuuming can destroy the material of your carpet.

Truth: Frequent vacuuming is actually healthy as it reduces pollen and dust and lengthens the life of your carpet. So, if you feel like vacuuming your carpet right now, by all means!

Myth #3: Washing dishes by hand is better than using a dishwasher.

Washing your plates, mugs, and silverware by hand ensures a more thorough clean.

Truth: Handwashing isn't practical any more than it is economical. It takes too much time and wastes too much water. For sure, you can still have the same results and added convenience using a dishwasher.

Myth #4: It's safe to use bleach as an all-around cleaner

Bleach is usually used in pool sanitation as a disinfectant. It's also effective in removing stubborn stains from white fabrics.

Truth: Bleach can potentially destroy fabrics. It is also hazardous to children, so using it in place of a cleaning solution is not advisable. However, there can be cases in which the use of bleach is effective, such as cleaning the bathroom. For that, make sure to dilute a tablespoon of bleach with enough water so you have a disinfectant that's safe to use.
